Distribution: Occurring in the Olympics and Cascades mountains foothills of western Washington; Washington to Oregon.

Habitat: Moist ground at mid-elevations in the mountains.

Flowers: May-June

Origin: Native

Conservation Status: Sensitive in Washington (WANHP)

Description:
General:

Herbaceous perennial from a short, stout rhizome, the scape 1-3 dm. tall, villous-puberulent, as are the petioles.

Leaves:

Leaves all basal, long-petiolate, the blades reniform-cordate to cordate-rotund, 4-12 cm. wide and long, palmately veined, with shallow lobes, the sinuses 5-15 mm. deep, the lobes again few-toothed.

Flowers:

Inflorescence a terminal raceme; calyx of 4 sepals; corolla blue, 4-6 mm. long, the lobes spreading, much longer than the tube, deeply and irregularly laciniate; stamens 2; stigma capitate.

Fruits:

Capsule 3 mm. high and 6 mm. wide, notched.
