Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; north-central Washington to California, east to the Rocky Mountains.
Habitat: Grassy slopes, sagebrush desert, and ponderosa or lodgepole pine forest openings.

Glabrous perennial herbs from an onion-like bulb, the simple stem 3-5 dm. tall.
Leaves mostly basal, linear, 1.5-3 dm. long and 3-12 mm. broad; cauline leaves sheathing, much reduced upward.
Inflorescence a panicle, the upper flowers perfect, the lower staminate, the panicle ultimately 1-3 dm. long; pedicels 5-25 mm. long, ascending; perianth white to cream-colored, broadly bell-shaped; tepals 6, unequal, the outer broadly ovate, not clawed, 3.5-4.5 mm. long, the inner oblong-lanceolate, pointed, clawed, nearly a mm. longer than the outer; the yellowish-green gland at the base of each tepal broadly ovate; stamens 6, at least a mm. longer than the tepals; styles 3, distinct, 3 mm. long.
Capsule 14-18 mm. long.
