Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in central Washington; central Washington, the mountains of northeast Oregon and adjacent Idaho, south to northeast California.

Habitat: Meadows and open or sparsely wooded slopes in the foothills to middle elevations in the mountains.

Flowers: July-August

Description:
General:

Herbaceous perennial from a taproot, the stems several 1-4 dm. high, decumbent at the base; herbage white-woolly with flattened hairs, becoming glandular in the inflorescence.

Leaves:

Leaves sharply and irregularly toothed, the basal tufted and petiolate, 3-20 cm. long and 6-40 mm. wide; cauline leaves reduced upward and becoming sessile.

Flowers:

Heads usually several, hemispheric, the inflorescence becoming elongate; involucre 9-15 mm. high, the bracts little imbricate, green-tipped; disk flowers numerous, yellow; ray flowers 13-30, 6-12 mm. long, yellow; pappus of whitish, unequal, capillary bristles

Fruits:

Achenes elongate.
