Distribution: Occurring in forested areas on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Montana.

Habitat: Moist, shady, wooded areas, sea level to mid-elevations in the mountains.

Flowers: April-July

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Sparingly branched perennial herbs from rhizomes, the leafy stem up to 6 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves ovate, pointed, strongly cordate and oblique, strongly pubescent below and sparsely so above, the margins with forward-pointing hairs.

Flowers:

Flowers 2-3, narrowly bell-shaped, creamy white, 9-18 mm. long; tepals 6, alike, distinct, narrowly elliptic; stamens 6, at least as long as the perianth, the anthers exposed; style hairy, stigma nearly entire.

Fruits:

Fruit a red berry, broadly obovoid, 7-9 mm. long.
