Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in central Washington; Washington to California, east to Idaho and Nevada.

Habitat: Dry, rocky soil, often with sagebrush.

Flowers: May-July

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Densely tufted, taprooted sub-shrub, 3-10 cm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves linear, erect, entire, rigid, 0.5-2 cm. long and up to 2 mm. wide, rough-glandular, mostly crowded at the base of the several stems, forming a loose mat.

Flowers:

Heads solitary on the numerous, nearly naked stems; involucre 5-9 mm. high, the bracts sub-equal, pointed, glandular, somewhat chaffy; rays 8-12, 7-11 mm. long, yellow; disk flowers several, yellow; pappus of whitish, distinctly unequal, capillary bristles.
