Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest and in the Olympic Mountains in Washington; British Columbia to California.

Habitat: Open, rocky areas, from moist to somewhat dry, at middle to high elevations in the mountains.

Perennial from a stout, branching, woody base, the several stems 1.5-4 dm. tall, white-woolly throughout.

Leaves sessile, entire, elliptic to ovate, 2-6 cm. long and 7-35 mm. wide, not reduced upward along the stem, white-woolly on the lower surface but lightly so and green on the upper; basal leaves wanting.

Heads several in a short, flat-topped inflorescence; involucre 5-7 mm. high, the bracts in a single series, firm, equal, lightly white-woolly; corollas all tubular, 10-17 in each head, pale yellowish; pappus of numerous capillary bristles.

Achenes prominently several-nerved.
