Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in Washington; southwestern British Columbia to California.

Habitat: Forest understory and edge at low elevations, often where moist.

Flowers: May-July

Description:
General:

Herbaceous, stiff-hairy perennial from a rhizome, the solitary flowering stem 2-8 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves few, long-petiolate, alternate, large, the blades up to 15 cm. long and wide, thinly close-hairy on both sides, pinnipalmately divided into 5 pointed, sharply-toothed leaflets.

Flowers:

Flowers in loose clusters on long peduncles, about equaling the leaves; calyx lobes 4-6 mm. long with bristles on the edges; corolla 5-7 mm. long, usually greenish-white; stamens 5, the filaments exerted, attached near the bottom of the corolla tube, each flanked by a pair of linear appendages; style exerted, 2-cleft.

Fruits:

Fruit a capsule.
