Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to California, east to Idaho and Nevada.

Habitat: Sagebrush, grasslands, dry slopes, and other open areas at low to middle elevations.

Flowers: April-August

Origin: Native

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Description:
General:

Perennial from a turnip-shaped taproot, the stems clustered, decumbent, freely-branched, 2-12 dm. tall, the herbage rough-hairy.

Leaves:

Leaves lanceolate or narrower, entire, triple-nerved, 3-12 cm. long and 2-15 mm. wide, nearly sessile.

Flowers:

Heads few on each stem, the disk 12-25 mm. wide, yellow; involucral bracts lance-linear, long-pointed, with conspicuous spreading hairs; rays usually 8 or 13, 2-3.5 cm. long, yellow; receptacle chaffy throughout; pappus of 2 readily deciduous awns.

Fruits:

Achenes clasped by the inner involucral bracts.
