Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Idaho and Utah, not recorded for Montana, also from Great Plains east to the Atlantic.

Habitat: Moist, disturbed areas from the lowlands to middle elevations.

Flowers: June-September

Origin: Native? Introduced in OR, status as a native in BC uncertain

Growth Duration: Annual

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Pollination: Bees, butterflies, flies, apomixis?

Description:
General:

Annual, 6-15 dm. tall, the stem with long, spreading hairs below the inflorescence.

Leaves:

Leaves ample, generally toothed, the cauline leaves broadly lanceolate to ovate.

Flowers:

Inflorescence large and usually leafy; involucre 3-5 mm. high, finely glandular and sparsely long-hairy; rays 80-125, white to lavender, 0.5-1 mm. wide and up to 10 mm. long; disk corollas 2-2.8 mm. long; pappus of 10-15 very fragile bristles and some short, bristly scales, the bristles wanting in the ray flowers.
