Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to Oregon, east to Idaho.

Habitat: Basalt cliffs and rock crevices in the plains and foothills, extending up to 6000 feet on the east slope of the Cascades.

Much-branched shrub 2-6 dm. tall, the twigs brittle and resinous.

Leaves glabrous, linear, resinous, 0.5-3 cm. long and 0.5-2 mm. wide.

Heads solitary or in small, tight clusters at the ends of the branches; involucre narrow, 5-8 mm. high, its bracts strongly imbricate, usually chartaceous throughout, often reflexed; flowers white to pale yellow; ray flowers 3-7, 3-6 mm. long; disk flowers about 13, 5-7.5 mm. long, the lobes 1-2 mm. long.
