Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; southern British Columbia to California, east to Idaho and Nevada.
Habitat: Dry, rocky slopes and open woods, from the foothills to moderate elevations in the mountains.

Branching shrub 2-6 dm. tall, with brittle twigs.
Leaves numerous, linear, 2-6 cm. long and 0.5-4 mm. wide, straight or twisted.
Heads clustered at the ends of twigs, the inflorescence elongate; involucre 7-11 mm high, narrow and imbricate; rays 1-5, sometimes wanting, 6-12 mm. long, yellow; disk flowers 4-12, 7-11 mm. long, yellow.
Achenes elongate.
