Distribution: Uncommon weed in western Oregon; more common in California and eastern United States.
Habitat: Waste ground and roadsides.

Glabrous annual, branching at the base, the hollow culms up to 6 dm. tall.
Sheaths open, the throat with hairs up to 6 mm. long; ligules 0.5 mm. long; blades folded, 3-8 mm. broad.
Inflorescence of 3-6 digital spikes up to 10 cm. long; spikelets several-flowered, articulate above the glume, sessile in 2 rows on one side of the rachis; glumes 3-4 mm. long; lemmas about 4 mm. long, the paleas about half as long as the lemmas; lemmas unawned, with a strong keel and 2 prominent, greenish, lateral nerves; paleas 2-nerved; stamens 3.
