Distribution: Occurring in the Cascades and Olympic Mountains of Washington; Alaska to Washington, east to Northwest Territories, Alberta, and Nunavut.

Habitat: Open, rocky ledges and talus slopes in the subalpine and alpine.

Flowers: July-September

Description:
General:

Perennial from a branching crown, the stems 0.5-3 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, gray-silky with appressed hairs; basal leaves tufted and persistent, petiolate, the blade 0.5-3 cm. long, trifid or palmatifid into narrow segments, often again divided; cauline leaves few and reduced, often entire.

Flowers:

Heads few in a spike-like raceme; involucre 3-4.5 mm. high, densely woolly, its bracts dark-margined; corollas all tubular, pale yellow, with hairs near the tip; receptacle naked; pappus none.

Fruits:

Achenes sparsely long-hairy.
