Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east the northern Rocky Mountains, northern Great Plains, and Great Lakes region.
Habitat: Moist, shady woods at low to middle elevations.

Somewhat glandular, slender perennial from fibrous roots, up to 9 dm. tall.
Leaves mostly near the base, long-petiolate, large and thin, deltoid-ovate to cordate, 3-15 cm. wide; leaves nearly glabrous above and white-woolly beneath, coarsely toothed to entire.
Involucre of less than 10 equal green bracts about 2 mm. long, reflexed in fruit; flowers whitish, tubular, the outer 3-7 pistillate, the inner about as many and staminate; pappus none.
Achene clavate, 5-8 mm. long.
