Distribution: Occurring chiefly east of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Idaho, Colorado, and New Mexico.
Habitat: Uncommon on dry, open hillsides and borders of woodlands.

Simple to freely-branched annual, the stem 1.5-8 dm. tall, glabrous above and stiff-hairy below.
Basal leaves several, oblanceolate, 1.5-5 cm. long, short-petiolate and dentate; cauline leaves alternate, smaller than the basal, oblong to narrowly lanceolate, sessile and auriculate, entire to dentate.
Inflorescence of slender, bractless racemes; pedicles almost filiform, recurved, 4-7 mm. long; sepals 4, spreading, ovate, 1 mm. long, often purplish, white-margined; petals 4, white or purplish-tinged, about equal to the sepals, narrow; stamens 6; style 0.1-0.5 mm. long.
Silicles strongly compressed, orbicular or oval, 5-8 mm. long, bordered with a broad, radiately nerved wing, glabrous or pubescent.
