Thelephora terrestris is another widespread inconspicuous leather fungus. Compared with T. palmata, the often abundant clusters are more frilly and flower-like and much less stinky, having very little odor. The fans are silky fibrillose on the upper surface and smooth or somewhat wrinkled underneath. T. terrestris is ectomycorrhizal with conifers and is a very common “weed” in greenhouses and plantations where conifer seedlings are grown for re-forestation purposes. It is even more widely distributed than T. palmata.
