Habitat: S. albivelatus occurs in mixed conifer forests and appears to be associated with pines.
Conservation Status: Not of concern
northern pine bolete
Suillus albivelatus has the same habit and stature as many other suilluses---a rather broad vinaceous brown to yellow brown, viscid to shiny cap and short fleshy stipe. Careful observation will reveal that young specimens often have white veil remnants on the edge of the cap, and a slight white to vinaceous ring-zone on the stipe. The stipe is white to yellow, without glandular dots (except in age) and it discolors brown at the base. S. albivelatus occurs in mixed conifer forests and appears to be associated with pines. Similar pine-associated species with veils or cottony cap margins include S. neoalbidipes (= S. albidipes), S. brunnescens, Suillus pseudobrevipes, and Suillus glandulosipes.
