Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington British Columbia to California, east across North America.

Habitat: Saline or brackish areas along the coast, and alkaline areas inland.

Flowers: May-August

Origin: Native

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Pollination: Self-pollination, bees, flies

Description:
General:

Somewhat glandular-pubescent annual with many ascending to erect stems up to 3.5 dm. long and only 1-1.5 mm. thick.

Leaves:

Leaves opposite, 1-3 cm. long and 1 mm. wide; stipules about 3 mm. long and wide.

Flowers:

Flowers in an open, branched, leafy, terminal cyme; sepals 5, distinct, about 3.5 mm. long, usually glandular-hairy; petals 5, white to deep pink, about 1 mm. shorter than the sepals; stamens 2-5; styles 3, distinct, 0.5 mm. long.

Fruits:

Capsule as long as or somewhat longer than the calyx, opening to the base by 3 valves.
