Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California; also in central and eastern North America.

Habitat: Fields, roadsides, wastelots, and other disturbed areas.

Flowers: May-October

Origin: Introduced from Europe

Description:
General:

Glabrous annual or biennial herb, the stems 3-10 dm. tall, usually branched above.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, pinnatifid into 10-16 equal, evenly spaced, linear-elliptic segments, with very narrow, membranous, minutely wavy-denticulate margins.

Flowers:

Inflorescence of bracteate, elongate, spike-like racemes; pedicles short; sepals 5, lanceolate, about half the length of the corolla; petals 5, grayish- to greenish-white, irregular but nearly equal, 4-6 mm. long, the basal portion short and rounded, the upper portion obovate with a wedge-shaped base, shallowly to deeply lobed into 3 linear segments, the center segment the narrowest; stamens about 10, attached to a 1-sided disk, slightly shorter than the petals; stigma sessile, small, globose.

Fruits:

Capsules oblong, 10-13 mm. long.
