Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest, where known only from Thurston County; Washington to California.

Non-green saprophytic perennial; often cream but may be pinkish or whitish, turning black with age; stems absent.

Leaves absent.

Inflorescence 1-4 cm raceme, erect from time of emergence; flowers 12-18 mm, radially symmetric; sepals usually 4, distinct, 1-2 cm long and 0.5 cm broad; petals usually 4, distinct, oblong, 1-1.5 cm long and 0.4-0.7 cm broad, usually hairy both surfaces, chocolate-colored blotches, base somewhat sac shaped, rounded apex; stamens 8, 0.5-1 cm with hairy filaments and ovoid anthers 1-1.5 mm in diameter; glabrous ovary 3-5 mm long and 2.5-5 mm broad; pistil with 4-5 carpels, style 3-5 mm long and 2-3 mm broad, stigma 5 mm or larger with depressed apex.

Capsules 5-8 mm, fleshy.
