Habitat: Forests and woodlands.
Substrate: Wood, usually stumps, logs, and branches on the ground. Can be growing from buried wood.
Conservation Status: Not of concern
Stemmed and often apparently terrestrial. Circular cap may be depressed in center, with a central or slightly off-center stem. Cap is azonate and glabrous, chestnut-brown to reddish-brown to blackish-brown, depressed center is often darker than cap. Pores tiny, round, pore layer white. Stem is white or light brown at top, black at base.
