Distribution: Occurring in scattered locations on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Yukon Territory to Oregon, east to Northwest Territory, Alberta, Montana, and Wyoming.
Habitat: Subalpine and alpine meadows.

Matted, evergreen shrubs 1-4 dm. tall, forming large mats, the young stems glandular-pubescent. This species is a sterile hybrid of P. empetriformis and P. glanduliflora, and is found only where these two species are found growing in the same area.
Leaves linear, alternate, closely crowded, persistent, 6-16 mm. long and 1-2 mm. broad, revolute, leaving a peg-like leaf scar.
Flowers single in the leaf axils, clustered at the stem tips; calyx lobes 5, nearly distinct, lanceolate; corolla united, urn-shaped, light pink, 5-7 mm. long, the 5 lobes short, spreading; stamens 10, included, the anthers without awns, opening by apical slits; ovary superior, glandular.
