Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to California, east to the Rocky Mountains and Texas.

Habitat: Common in open, rocky areas from middle elevations to the subalpine.

Flowers: May-August

Description:
General:

Glabrous perennial from a simple to freely-branched crown, the 1-many stems usually simple, 3-25 cm. tall.

Leaves:

Basal leaves many in a rosette, 1.5-4 cm. long, narrowly oblanceolate to broadly ovate or obovate, entire to few-toothed, narrowed abruptly to a slender petiole half to twice as long as the blade; cauline leaves several, lanceolate to oblong-elliptic, 5-35 mm. long, sessile and auriculate.

Flowers:

Inflorescence a terminal, bractless raceme; pedicles ascending to spreading, 4-10 mm. long; sepals 4, 2-3 mm. long, erect; petals 4, white, 4-6 mm. long; stamens 6; style 1-3 mm. long.

Fruits:

Silicles strongly obcompressed, 4-10 mm. long, from wedge-shaped at the base and truncate at the tip, to oblong-obcordate, the margins keeled and slightly winged; seeds in 1 series.
