Spores: ellipsoid spores (6--10 x 3.5--5.5 µm)

When fresh, Mycena amicta is unmistakable by its typical mycena stature and blue color; however, in age, the blue fades to brownish and it becomes considerably more mistakable. When only faded specimens are available, they can be recognized by the powdery-hairy stipe, thick peelable cap cuticle, close gills, ellipsoid spores (6--10 x 3.5--5.5 µm), and simple, narrow cheilocystidia. M. amicta usually is found in groups of a few fruitbodies, often on or near well rotted conifer wood in the PNW, also on wood of broad-leaved trees elsewhere.
