Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in lowland western Washington; southwestern British Columbia to California.

Habitat: Open ground, balds, and prairies where wet in the spring.

Flowers: March-April

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Glabrous, glaucous annual, the stem 2-10 cm. tall, simple or sparingly branched.

Leaves:

Leaves entire; basal leaves spatulate-obovate, 6-18 mm. long; cauline leaves opposite, sessile.

Flowers:

Flowers single on slender, erect, axillary and terminal peduncles 2-4 cm. long; receptacle flared, flat; sepals 3, 1.5 mm. long; petals usually 6, white, 2.5-4 mm. long; stamens 3-6, the anthers oval, 0.25 mm. long, much shorter than the filaments; ovary 3-celled, style absent; stigma 3-lobed, erect.

Fruits:

Capsule linear, 10-18 mm. long, somewhat contorted.
