Distribution: Occurring in scattered locations on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east across much of North America to the Atlantic Coast.

Habitat: Roadsides, fields, wastelots, and other disturbed, open areas.

Low annual with several glabrous, prostrate or ascending stems 1-4 dm. long.

Leaves opposite, ovate, entire, 5-15 mm. long, sessile and somewhat clasping.

Flowers usually in pairs, axillary on filiform, curved pedicels 1-4 cm. long; sepals 5, linear-lanceolate, acuminate, 2-4 mm. long, nearly distinct; corolla rotate, salmon-colored, 5-8 mm. broad, the 5 lobes broadly obovate with fine hairs on the margins; stamens 5, equal to and opposite the corolla lobes, inserted on the tube.

Capsule spherical, 3-5 mm. broad.
