Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in Washington; southern British Columbia to California, east to the Rocky Mountains.
Habitat: Open, often rocky slopes and dry meadows, lowlands to low alpine areas.

Plants caulescent, large, tall, nearly all mature specimens ≥ 5 dm, some to 2 m tall.
Pinnately compound, ultimate segments short, narrow; scabrous, particularly on leaflet margins and abaxial veins of leaflets, but not hairy.
Usually yellow, occasionally purple-brown.
Mericarps 9–12 (–14.3) × (2.9–) 4.5–7.7 (–8.1) mm, length:width 1.6–2.7.
