Distribution: Widely distributed on both sides of the Cascades crest in the mountainous areas of Washington; northern Washington to California and Nevada, east to Idaho and Montana.

Habitat: Moist or sometimes dry open slopes and drier meadows in subalpine and alpine areas.

Flowers: July-September

Origin: Native

Growth Duration: Perennial

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Pollination: Bees, flies, beetles, wasps

Description:
General:

Glabrous perennial from a taproot, the stems 2-6 dm. high, often scapose.

Leaves:

Leaves mostly basal, ternate-pinnately compound, the leaflets toothed or cleft, up to 3 cm. long; cauline leaves occasionally 1-2, much reduced.

Flowers:

Flowers white or sometimes pinkish, small; umbels 1-3, compound, the rays 7-14, 2-3.5 cm. long; involucre and involucel wanting; styles 2, short, the bases low-conic.

Fruits:

Fruit elliptic-oblong, 4-6 mm. long, the ribs narrowly winged.
