Glabrous, rhizomatous perennial, the stems hollow, erect to spreading, 2-10 dm. tall.

: Leaves odd-pinnate, 5-15 cm. long, with a short petiole: leaflets 9-15, oblong to oblong-obovate, 1-3 cm. long, bright green on the upper surface, glaucous below; stipules triangular, membranous, 4-10 mm. long.

Inflorescence of bracteate umbels on long peduncles, the bracts 3- to 5-foliate or occasionally simple, attached somewhat above mid-length; umbels 7-20 flowered, the pedicels 1-4 mm. long; flowers 8-13 mm. long, white to pink, lined with deep pink; calyx tubular, 4-5 mm. long, the 5 triangular teeth much shorter than the tube; corolla pea-like.

Pod flattened, 2.5-4.5 cm. long and 3-4 mm. wide.
