Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to northern California, east to Alberta and Montana.

Habitat: Foothills to subalpine slopes, on wet, mossy rocks, often where dry by mid-summer.

Herbaceous perennial from a short rhizome, the usually simple, single stem 1-3.5 dm. tall, strongly glandular-pubescent in the upper portion.

Leaves light green, somewhat fleshy, the basal several with stout petioles 3-11 cm. long; leaf blades 2-4 cm. broad, divided into 3 obovate segments with wedge-shaped bases, the segments with rounded lobes or entire; stipules membranous; cauline leaves 4-9, the petioles and blades reduced but the stipules enlarged upward.

Inflorescence of several flowers in a flat-topped, several-branched panicle; calyx broadly and shallowly bell-shaped, the 5 spreading lobes triangular-lanceolate, 1.5-2.5 mm. long; petals 5, white, spreading, persistent, 3-4 mm. long, obovate to oblanceolate, entire, not clawed; stamens 5.
