Distribution: H. elastica occurs in summer and fall in both conifer and hardwood forests.

Identification Notes:

Helvella elastica typically has a saddle to broadly bell-shaped cap with the lower lobes frequently turned down toward the stipe and sometimes fused with it. The upper cap surface is buff to brown, sometimes with a violet tint, and the underside is whitish and hairless. The stipe is slender, hollow, equal or tapered upward, cream to pale buff.
