Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska to Washington.

Habitat: Rocky slopes and seeps, alpine to subalpine

Flowers: June-August

Description:
General:

Mat-forming shrubs, the flowering stems 3-10 cm. tall, the branches minutely puberulent.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, spreading, linear-oblanceolate, 3-5 mm. long, short-petiolate, glabrous or the margins with short hairs.

Flowers:

Flowers single and terminal, 5-6 mm. long, on stout, puberulent pedicels 3-10 mm. long; sepals 5, nearly distinct, oblong-ovate, reddish, denticulate; corolla broadly bell-shaped, white or pinkish, the 5 lobes equaling the tube; stamens 10, included, the filaments conspicuously broadened at the base, about the width of the globose anthers; ovary superior.

Fruits:

Fruit a 5-celled, globose capsule.
