Distribution: Occurring chiefly east of the Cascades crest in Washington; central Washington to Baja California, east to Utah.

Habitat: Dry, open, usually sandy places in the lowlands.

Cushion-forming, dwarf annual, 1-6 cm. high, the herbage stiff-hairy.

Leaves narrowly linear, 5-13 mm. long, densely crowded toward the end of the branches.

Flowers solitary in the axils of the upper leaves; fruiting calyx 2-3 mm. long, circumscissile near the middle, the persistent cup-shaped portion translucent, the deciduous part herbaceous; corolla white, 5-lobed, 0.5-1.5 mm. wide; style equaling the nutlets.

Nutlets 4, smooth, triangular-ovate, 1-1.3 mm. long, attached to the style.
