Distribution: Widely distributed east of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to the Rocky Mountains..

Habitat: Moist meadows and slopes, and forest openings, from the foothills to the middle elevations.

Description:
General:

Herbaceous perennial, the stems 4-9 dm. tall, with short hairs below often changing to stalked glands above.

Leaves:

Leaves long-petiolate, the blades 5-12 cm. broad, somewhat glandular, palmately parted more than 3/4 their width into 5 obovate, wedge-shaped, sharply-toothed divisions.

Flowers:

Inflorescence of few-flowered cymes; sepals 5, 8-12 mm. long with bristle tips about 2 mm. long; petals 5, 14-20 mm. long, rounded to shallowly notched, pinkish-lavender to purplish, with soft hairs on the lower half; stamens 10, filaments with soft hairs full length; stylar column 2.5-3 cm. long, stigmas 3-6 mmm.

Fruits:

Mericarps 5, 4.5-5.5 mm, not wrinkled, glandular to pubescent; seeds pitted.
