Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in southwestern Washington, where known historically; southwestern Washington to northern California.

Perennial, the stems 4-8 dm. tall, covered with stalked glands above.

Leaves long-petiolate, the blades with stiff hairs on both surfaces, 6-14 cm. broad, divided palmately nearly to the base into 5-7 wedge-shaped, lobed segments.

Flowers showy, few, the long peduncles with leaf-like bracts; sepals 5, 9-12 mm. long with bristle-tips 2-3 mm. long; petals 5, 18-24 mm. long, reddish-purple; stamens 10, the filaments with hairs near the base; stylar column 2.5-5 cm long, stigmas 3-6 mm.

Mericarps 5, 4.5-5 mm, not wrinkled, sparsely bristly, glandular; seeds pitted.
