Distribution: Occurring in the Olympics and Cascades mountains of Washington; British Columbia to California, east to the Rocky Mountains.

Habitat: Open slopes, talus ridges, and other exposed areas in the alpine.

Description:
General:

Perennials forming dense clumps; base branching and covered with persistent leaves, occasionally ending with sterile rosettes, usually bearing scapes; stems 0.5-4 cm, not branched, dense pubescence with simple trichomes 0.4-0.8 mm and stalked trichomes with 2-5 rays, 0.1-0.5 mm.

Leaves:

Basal leaves densely imbricate, often forming rosettes, sessile, blades oblong or linear-oblanceolate, 0.2-0.8 cm long and 0.5-1.5 mm broad, margins entire and ciliate with simple and spurred trichomes 0.3-1.2 mm; dense pubescence above and beneath; upper surface trichomes stalked, stellate, 2-12-rayed, 0.1-0.6 mm; lower surface trichomes simple and 2-rayed, 0.3-0.8 mm; cauline leaves absent.

Flowers:

Inflorescence racemose, 2-12 flowered, ebracteate, somewhat elongated in fruit; rachis rigid, pubescence same as stem; fruiting pedicels spreading to ascending, straight, 1-5 mm, pubescent with simple trichomes and stalked trichomes with 2-5 rays; sepals 4, oblong, 1.5-2.5 mm, pubescent with simple trichomes and short-stalked trichomes with 2-4 rays; petals 4, yellow, narrower towards base, 2-3.5 mm long and 1.5-2 mm broad; anthers 0.5-0.6 mm, oblong.

Fruits:

Silicles generally 3-4 mm long and 1.5-3.5 mm broad, usually ovoid, plane, somewhat symmetrically inflated towards base; valves densely pubescent with 2-6-rayed trichomes; ovaries generally containing 4-8 ovules; seeds oblong, 1.2-1.8 mm long and 0.8-1.1 mm broad.
