Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to northern Oregon; also in central Idaho

Habitat: Streambanks and other wet places at moderate elevations in the mountains

Flowers: May-July

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Scapose, perennial herbs from short, thick rhizomes, the flowering stems 1.5-4 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves basal, glabrous, the blades ovate to oblong, 3-10 cm. long and 2-6 cm. broad, sinuate to dentate, narrowed abruptly to a slender petiole longer than the blade.

Flowers:

Flowers 2-12 in an umbel, terminal on the scape, 5-parted on recurved pedicels up to 7 cm. long; sepals lanceolate, 3-4 mm. long; corolla 12-20 mm. long, the lobes creamy-white, the tube yellowish with a reddish-purple ring; stamens clustered around the style, opposite the petals, the filaments less than 1 mm. long, reddish-purple, the anthers 6-7 mm. long, deep red; style single, slightly exceeding the stamens, stigma very slightly enlarged.

Fruits:

Capsule cylindric-ovoid, 6-10 mm. long, opening by valves to the tip.
