Distribution: Occurring east of the Cascades crest in southeastern Washington and in the Columbia River Gorge; Washington to Oregon, east to Idaho, also widespread in eastern North America.

Scapose, glaucous perennial from a short, erect, fleshy rhizome covered with small, globose tubers, the scapes 2-3.5 dm. tall.
Leaves long-petiolate, nearly equaling the scapes, the blades ternately compounded 3-4 times into linear segments 1.5-3 mm. broad.
Inflorescence of terminal, 3- to 8-flowered racemes on the scapes; sepals 2, ovate, 3 mm. long; petals 4, white or pinkish, the inner 2 petals yellow-tipped, 10 mm. long, with a crest 0.5-1.5 mm. high; outer 2 petals with a curved, saccate spur 7-11 mm. long, the divergent tips 2.5-3.5 mm. long; stamens 6, in two groups of 3; style 1, slender; stigmas 2-lobed.
Capsule spindle-shaped, 12 mm. long.
