Distribution: Occurring chiefly west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia south to California.

Habitat: Grasslands, balds, prairies, and open hillsides at low to middle elevations.

Flowers: May-June

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Herbaceous perennial to 25 cm. high originating from below-ground corm.

Leaves:

All basal, narrowly lanceoloate, withering before plants produce flowers.

Flowers:

Flowers 2-5 cm. long; tepal lobes 6, blue-purple to rose, recurved at the tips, fused below to form a tube; fertile stamens 3, staminodia 3, both attached to tepals, anthers often white; ovary superior.

Fruits:

Capsules with black seeds.
