Distribution: Occurring west of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to California.

Habitat: Moist woods and along streams, lowlands and along the coast.

Herbaceous perennial from rhizomes, the slender stem 1.5-6 dm. tall, covered with reddish-brown, soft hairs, usually glandular above.

Leaves long-petioled below becoming sessile above, the stipules of several long, brownish bristles from a short, broad base; leaf blades cordate, 2-6 cm. broad, 5-7 cleft nearly half their length, the segments irregularly toothed.

Inflorescence an open panicle, densely glandular and reddish; calyx 4-5 mm. long, the 5 lanceolate, glabrous lobes one-half as long as the glandular tube; petals 5, white, spatulate-oblanceolate, 5-6 mm. long, short clawed, deciduous.

Ovary half inferior, carpels 2; seeds ellipsoid, 0.5-0.6 mm. long, purplish black.
