Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; Alaska to Washington, and through the Rocky Mountains to New Mexico; circumboreal.

Habitat: Moist or wet places in the mountains, occasionally to high elevations

Botrychium lanceolatum in the broad sense consists of two genetically and morphologically distinct taxa recognized here as B. lanceolatum and B. viride. These have also been referred to as the red genotype and green genotype, respectively.
