Spores are white; fruitbody growth of up to 1 inch and cap diameter up to 6 inches. Similar looking cap and stem fungi with spines have brown spores. Hydnum species are often softer and more crumbly. Bankera fuligineoalba is more whitish and only occurs with pines.
