Amanita constricta is characterized by a gray-brown to brown cap, white to grayish or gray-brown-tinged gills, small white to buff or grayish patches on the cap, and a delicate sac-like volva, the lower portion of which is attached to the stipe base and is constricted above before flaring outward at the upper edge. The volva may or may no develop reddish stains.
