Distribution: Occurring chiefly east of the Cascades crest in Washington; Washington to California, east to Idaho, Montana, and Nevada.

Habitat: Subalpine to alpine ridges, meadows and talus slopes.

Flowers: June-August

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Glabrous to pubescent herbaceous perennial from a thick root and branched crown, the stems several, stout, erect, simple or branched above, 8-20 dm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves alternate, crowded, all cauline, only slightly reduced upward, petiolate, becoming subsessile above, the blade lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, 6-12 cm. long; stipules brownish, oblique, not lacerate.

Flowers:

Flowers perfect, numerous, in terminal, subterminal and axillary panicles; perianth white to greenish-white, 2.5-3 mm. long, the 5 segments elliptic to obovate; stamens 8, included; styles 3, distinct, 0.5 mm. long.

Identification Notes:

Achene with 3 sharp angles, yellowish-brown, smooth, 4-5 mm. long.
