Distribution: Occurring on both sides of the Cascades crest in Washington; British Columbia to Oregon, east to Idaho and Montana; invasive in eastern North America.

Habitat: Forest edge, riparian zones, fields, and other disturbed areas where escaped from cultivation.

Flowers: April-May

Origin: Introduced from Europe

Conservation Status: Not of concern

Description:
General:

Spreading tree to 20 m. tall, the bark smooth and gray.

Leaves:

Leaves opposite, palmately 5-lobed, the lobes sharp-pointed, with 1 or 2 sharp-pointed teeth.

Flowers:

Plant monoecious; flowers many, yellow, in upright, axillary panicles, appearing before leaves.

Fruits:

Samaras.
