Crataegus douglasii Lindl.[HC, HC2, JPM]
black hawthorn, Douglas's hawthorn

Publication: Edwards's Bot. Reg. 8: pl. 1810.

Origin: Native

selected vouchers: WTU

Notes: Phipps (1995) lectotypified C. columbiana, chosing a black-fruited glabrous specimen that places it in synonymy with C. douglasii. Crataegus columbiana has usually been interpreted as a red-fruited plant, and this typification is controversial, see Holmgren (1997) and rebuttal by Phipps (1998). For discussion of the black-fruited hawthorns of our area see Love (1999), Dickinson and Love (1997), and Dickinson et al. (1996).
