The Flora of the Pacific Northwest Checklist aims to be a complete list of the native and naturalized vascular plants of the Pacific Northwest, with current classifications, nomenclature and synonymy. The checklist currently contains 5,430 accepted terminal taxa, of which 3,915 are native.
Taxa included in the checklist:
The checklist here contains all of the names, both accepted and in synonymy, occurring in the Flora of the Pacific Northwest, 2nd edition (published in 2018). As of March 2024, 75 treatment updates to FPNW2 have been made available on the project website. These treatments include taxonomic and/or nomenclatural name changes, all of which are included in this checklist. The checklist is actively managed and updated as new information becomes available.
Each taxon in the checklist has its own page containing the author of that name, the publication citation, relevant synonyms, and a link to the specimen records for that taxon at the Consortium of Pacific Northwest Herbaria's online database. Where possible, a field image for a taxon is provided as part of the treatment page.
This checklist, and the updated treatments through 2023, were made possible through generous support from U.S. BLM Agreement L20AC00236 to the University of Washington Herbarium, Burke Museum. For questions or comments, please contact David Giblin (dgiblin [at] uw.edu).
Taxonomy sources
Family classifications follow APG IV for angiosperms, PPG I (J. Syst. Evol. 54:563–603. 2016) for pteridophytes, and Christenhusz et al. (Phytotaxa 19:55–70. 2011) for gymnosperms, with a few exceptions. Nomenclature and synonymy at the rank of genus and below follows the 2nd Edition of the Flora of the Pacific Northwest except where superseded by new information.
